Kidney is very important organ in the body. This organ is responsible for excreting waste products, maintaining the volume and ionic composition of the body fluid, producing erythropoietin and vitamine D. As social structure is modernized and average span of life is extended, incidences of geriatric diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes have also increased together with the increased renal diseases accompanied by them. Recently, patients of renal diseases accompanied by various complications tend to increase. At the same time, the renal diseased accompanied by other diseases in addition to simple renal diseases seem to show a sudden increase. The Nephrology Division of Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital manages patients with hematuria, proteinuria, urinary tract infections, glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome, renal hypertension, diabetic nephropathy, lupus nephritis and acute/chronic renal failure. The Division also manages patients with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and transplantation programs.
