الطبّ النفسي

The Department of Psychiatry was founded in 1952. The department has been continually advanced in clinical practice, education and research. The department has 9 specialized clinics and 5 laboratories, and has operated Sunflower Children Center in Gwangju and Jeonnam, Mental Health Center at Buk-gu in Gwangju and Silver Management Project for Senile Dementia at Dong-gu in Gwangju. In 1991 our sleep laboratory opened for the first time in Korea and has been the leader in the field of Korean sleep medicine. Recently clinical electrophysiology laboratory has been expanded and the facilities for diverse neuropsychiatry tests including event-related potential were equipped. We provide the highest quality of education and training for psychiatric residents and medical students. We actively investigated pharmaco-behavioral psychiatry, psycho-neuro-immunology, and genetic area. We have performed studies of several national projects and international clinical trials. The Department of Psychiatry has played an active role in the academic and clinical field and became a Korean leader in the psychiatry.
